Is having 1024mb ram a bad idea on windows 98?
When I bought my music pc I had it configured with 1024mb ram as I was planning to put windows XP on it but that caused all sorts of problems so I stuck with windows 98se. Ive heard that windows 98se cant address more than 512mb of ram so having more is pointless.
Could having 1024mb actually cause it problems?

Well I've just reinstalled windows XP on another partition and a fresh install of SFP 3.1 with 3.1a and 3.1c updates. I loaded SFP, no problem. Loaded my latest project and the same damn error.
SFP caused an invalid page fault in
module PEPSCOPE.DLL at 018f:036b1f3b.
I'm wondering now whether its a problem with a device Im using since it doesnt occur on all projects.
On windows 98se I continue to get this error even though Ive installed the microsoft libraries update..
SFP caused an invalid page fault in
module MSVCRT.DLL at 018f:7800d17d.
I also get these
SFP caused an exception 01H in module <unknown> at 0000:00000027.
SFP caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 018f:bff9dfff.

To be or not to be. What was the question?
apart the fact that exceding the suggested ram for 98 can be a trouble maker,
some time ago i remember of such errors cured by changing graphic drivers, but i can't say it for sure regarding your machine.
of course it's something to try, at least to exclude it.....

Could be your motherboard becoming unstable or not entirely compatible with your RAM modules. (hardware related). One fix is to try with only 2 modules (and use terminator modules in the empty slots), see if you can isolate the problem to a particular pair of ram sticks. Maybe try 2 sticks of another brand if you can borrow some or something. Could also be 4 sticks causes instability w/ your board in general, dropping to two sticks may solve it.
Im almost sure the errors are down to particular devices since it seems to be ok until I load certain projects. Im suspicious of a couple of celmos echo and enchore. I think im gonna have to go through and validate each one.
From what I gather win98se should now handle 1gig fine, earlier win98 editions only supported 512mb. Since my pc is built by a specialist music company im fairly certain that the hardware components are ok.
I fixed the "not appropriate for your hardware" error I was getting when it loaded my zlink module. It turned out that the module was saved previous to changing the order of my cards in cset.ini so it though it was on card 2 when in fact it was now a card 3. so after removing the module and recreating it the error went away.
