DC coupled A16U?

Post by Peter Drake »

I'd like to control some physical modular stuff through Scope, and also back the other way. Is the A16U DC coupled? Can it be? I'm handy with an oscilloscope and soldering iron. Do I need to discuss this with Ferrofish?

Failing that, anyone using some cheap and cheerful Lightpipe interface in this manner?

So,- IS the A16U DC coupled or not ?
All the above isn´t an answer to the original question and I don´t find A16U in SW device compatibility list,- which doesn´t mean it isn´t.
Who knows if they tested the A16U at all.
When I look @ A16U specs or manual,- no word ...

So what ?

No, I have a Nuendo/RME 8ch. AD/DA which is DC coupled.
But, I´m also interested in if the A16U is since I bought 2 of these recently.
OTOH, I don´t want to be the G.P. an damage one of the A16Us.

Well, modding digital gear is what I´d fear and cannot do myself anyway.

Bud, I am intrigued, which Nuendo/RME specifically?

That would be the Nuendo branded version of the RME Multiface I (not II), most likely. Steinberg was cross branding a lot of products back then.

AFAIK, most (if not all) of the older RME AD/DAs are DC coupled.
Once I bought a Steinberg/ Nuendo branded hardware bundle incl. Nuendo surround plugins.
The hardware included:
Nuendo Timelock Pro syncronizer, which is a less than half-rack width Rosendahl device w/ Nuendo branded 19" front-panel
Nuendo 96|52 audio card, which is a RME Hammerfall 9652 PCI card
Nuendo 8 I/O 8-ch. AD/DA which is a RME ADI 8 Pro

Tech specs:
https://www.rme-audio.de/old/english/adi/adi8.htm

ADI 8 Pro inside:
https://www.rme-audio.de/old/english/techinfo/adi8.htm

I used the Nuendo 8 I/O (RME ADI-8 Pro) w/ SCOPE 5.1/XITE successfully via ADAT and on my Win XP machine,- but now, I´d want to use the S|C "blackface" A16U together w/ SCOPE 7(.1) /XITE on Win7/Z97 64Bit and put the Hammerfall card back into the 32Bit XP machine for usage in a different room for different purpose together w/ Fostex reel-to-reel multitrack and other retro gear.
I just grabbed a Fostex MTC-1 (MIDI interface / LTC to MTC converter) like new in original box for 25.- plus shipping and already own the Fostex 5030 line amp.

Anyway ...

you´d be able finding a RME 8 Pro used for 300-500 bucks depending on condition.
They are very reliable devices and when I used it w/ the hammerfall card, the AD/DA was master always because of it´s excellent clock.

What about a cheap ADA8200 modified with Burr Browns and DC’d I/O’s?

They go for 150 and after the 450 modification you’ve got a great little 8 Channel AD/DA.
You can mix and match ADAT or XLR and even loop through it if you get the additional clock mod.

So for 850 you’ve got a great sounding interface only limited by 8 channels.

Revive Audio and Black Lion Audio do similar modifications.
