Is it worth to use a pcie Adapter to connect a M2 ssd drive or can I buy a cheap ssd?

I want to Upgrade my HD to ssd. There are some m2 drives faster and cost lot more. Is it possible to connect to the scopers famous Asus z87-k Support only pcie

probably not.
the HD is rarely the bottleneck, but i suppose there might be some advantage to sample streaming.

SSD is fast enough. If you need to write in the order of more than 300MB/s, the pcie will start to make sense.
I use SSD on all my PCs, which is a real booster compared to classic HD.

Thanks for the answers. I will use Samplelibrarys hardly, superior Drummer 3 and omnisphere and others. Maybe I get the Samsung m.2. 1 TB ssd to get fastest accesss to all my work. What do you think????? have now updated my win 7 to 10 and scope 7 and samplitude Suite X3 and RAM updated from 16 to 32GB to get that hell machine with 3x15 DSP Cards inside = 45 and 3xA16 Audiobahn bei creamware, because the behringer ADA8000 succs with loosing the sync always, but the A16 works like a charme!

I think you'll launch sample libraries a bit faster than with usual SSD. But usual SSD are already very fast !

I just purchased an 7-4790K on my asus B85-pro , overclocked automatically to 4.6Ghz with ai suite, this asus app installed a "boost USB3" that is amazing ! I can use USB almost as fast as SSD on sata ! Usual SSD worth it but for M2, I'm not sure you'll get that much benefit.

Reads will always be faster on SSD's, but note that not all SSDs have good sustained write speeds AND that many SSD's don't do as well at low queue depths for reads as they do at higher (meaning that they can often read separate parts of the ssd better than a single location, or concentrated locations, because the individual NAND chips are latent!)

M2 is a format too btw, which can either use SATA as a protocol or NVMe, the latter is the faster of the two and tends to show up with much better SSD's.

Actually sample loading and OS+Apps will see noticeable increases.
Streaming will scream until the controller becomes hot and throttles down to regular SSD transaction times.

I put Omnisphere on my M.2 NVMe devices because samples are loaded via program change messages, just like an old hardware sampler does. My progress bar flashes instead of slowly loading.
OS loads extremely fast now too.

Even though they throttle down to PCI-e 2x speeds that’s fast.
These devices we see in the consumer markets weren’t invented with streaming in mind.
But AMDs new Infinity Fabric design is so fresh for x86 computing code can be written to take more advantage of applications that benefit from streaming.

I use a cross blower Dynatron Fan to cool my NMVe (upper left) but this is more for show as hardware monitoring app seems to report 3-4 degree differences. I thought I’d give it a try though. Looks all scientific & shit too.....

The card style NVMe devices from Intel and others have adequate cooling but I had some Intel 400Gs and while you don’t really notice the dissipation of bandwidth in our apps, AS-SSD and other benchmarks show the results after 15-20 minutes.

Best performance I’ve seen are the Samsung Pro 850 SSDs.
10 year warranty, in house controllers made, even have better drivers and caching software. The Magician software benchmarks but also caches RAM which seems to benefit audio apps.

Here’s an unrealistic benchmark basically off the charts because Z/H 97 chipsets take data directly to the CPU instead of the PCH.
These are very fast SSDs so if you get EVOs, they are also fast but lack the Samsung Pro 10 year warranty.

I wish my devices ran as quick as the Benchmarks say.
