intel quad q9550 cpu audio crackles SOLVED!!!! disabled EIST

Post by ARCADIOS »

hi,
I recently changed(upgraded) my core duo 6500 dual core cpu to the quad 9550.
the socket is 775

the quad 9550 is a bettter cpu and has 4 cores.
I experience some audio random pops and crackles whit Ableton Live.
I wonder if it is much of a mess that cpu uses 4 cores :-?

I have an older i7 (3930K) with 6 cores. I had random pops with cubase.
After i deactivated hyperthreading and some performance/energy-settings in bios everything is fine now.

4 cores is not an issue.

follow the setup suggestion in the tips and tricks section. be sure you don't have an old bios.

I disabled cpu EIST in bios and pops and crackles disappeared completely!!! :) :) :)
I should have done this with the older 2 core cpu, but random clicks were less than on the 4 core cpu...

I see that in the tips section of planetz, garyb advices us to disable a whole list of cpu functions...
but I disabled only EIST which gave me the result...
am I missing something that I have all other like C1 enabled???

EIST is the worst offender.

what this is about is that the CPU gets run at very low voltage at idle to save power. when a program asks for more processing, it is supposed to ramp up the CPU's power. it's great, except it's too slow for a realtime device like Scope.

Using cpu monitor I observed that disabing EIST the frequency of the cpu remains at its top..because the multiplier is at the high number...in my case 8.5.... But I see that voltage of cpu is changing..... I dont actually care since cracks disappeared....and cpu raised temperature for very litle...about 3 degrees celcieus(according to cpu monitoring)... Just saying

if you're saying it's not needed, you are correct.
