Bowen's synths on Win 7 64bit
Are John Bowen's devices compatible with Win 7/64? I just re-installed the bundle that I purchased a few years ago, and most devices crash when I change presents and result in BSOD.
Re: Bowen's synths on Win 7 64bit
I believe they do work in 64bit.

Bowen synthesizer work on 64 bit 100%! On my 64bit and win7, they work great.
out and about for music production. Are you still configguring your Studio music first!

I suspected that the wav and sample oscillators caused the trouble I have experienced. Then I may be wrong. I have probably to few dsps (13) for those big synth designs. Changing presets on a 3 voice instance of Rotor brings the system to its knees.

Re: Bowen's synths on Win 7 64bit
Nah, it's definately a no-go. I just loaded a 3 voice instance of Dark Star with plenty of DSP headroom, and it crashed w/BSOD. No chance it will work.
Re: Bowen's synths on Win 7 64bit
what won't work is the wave osc.
as long as no samples are loaded, it shouldn't crash.

Your system is the problem not Bowen synthesizer

Re: Bowen's synths on Win 7 64bit
it's the sample osc on the synth. it was made long before 64bit.
Re: Bowen's synths on Win 7 64bit
...or his system...it depends on the point of view.

So, what is the secret trick to make the plugins work under W7/64?Marco wrote:Bowen synthesizer work on 64 bit 100%! On my 64bit and win7, they work great.

Thanks, I am aware of this. I have dropped the files under "App/Sys" (I believe, not at my DAW now). All the files are .SYS so I thought the SYS foulder is where they belong. There is no instruction on S|C on how to do this properly.petal wrote:I believe they do work in 64bit.

Re: Bowen's synths on Win 7 64bit
just get rid of the thing1 and thing2 samples.
don't load anything into the sample oscs. the synths will work.

A few suggestions here about Qwave and SolarisNebukadneser wrote:So, what is the secret trick to make the plugins work under W7/64?Marco wrote:Bowen synthesizer work on 64 bit 100%! On my 64bit and win7, they work great.

http://www.hitfoundry.com/issue_26/sol_mast.htm - mainly for XITE but some tips probably apply to PCI as well. Some of it is standard stuff such as preset surfing at Poly 1, stripping out stuff from presets that doesnt affect the sound much but reduces DSP load etc etc

What would be the smart thing to do here? Downgrade to W7/32 to be able to run STS and Bowen?garyb wrote:just get rid of the thing1 and thing2 samples.

I am never going to go beyond the 4GB ram that I have installed in my current system, which is one of the benefits og going 64bit, so I assume that I can stay 32 bit and run most audio apps. Or, are 64 bit a requirement for music apps these days?

That's probably not a bad idea esp if you don't use lots of hungry apps. I have PCI cards on a separate computer Win10 32bit and the Zarg bundle works pretty good. (and STS)Nebukadneser wrote:

I´m on 32Bit ...garyb wrote:just get rid of the thing1 and thing2 samples.

On my machines, one of those samples is missing (no idea which exactly atm ...)
Where do I find both (or all) neccessary to open ZARG synths presets and not running into the app asking for a sample not existing on my machine´s HDDs ?
I have the original zip files of the ZARG bundle deal even here on my office machine as a backup,- but surprisingly there are no samples included at all.
thx

Re: Bowen's synths on Win 7 64bit
Well, I've been running 32bit windows 7 for years for this exact reason (and to be able to use XTC-mode which works great with Live and a Push ) and I've been fine, but within the last year both Cubase and Live have gone 64-bit exclusively, meaning, no more updates/upgrades on my old trusted 32-bit installation. So that might be worth having in mind before you make the decission. Or you can run two partions on your machine like me and have windows installed in both 32 and 64 bit.Nebukadneser wrote:What would be the smart thing to do here? I truely hope (but seriously doubt) that Scope 7 will leave me no reasons to stay in 32-bit land.
