i wouldn't do that so often. the contacts are gold and the layer isn't that thick. all that eraser and in and out of the slot won't help it last longer.
i don't think the idea of routine maintenance is bad, i just wouldn't do it even close to that often.

I think just the occasional cleaning off any dust (with compressed air and/or a soft static free brush) is all that is really needed. Also I would only really clean the contacts if the card starts acting up again. Messing about with the cards too often just increases the possibility of damaging them by mistake. A good quality, branded PSU and decent cooling, airflow & ventilation for the PC are probably the best way to keep your cards in good working order.
