When the DAW app crashes...

A question...

This happens so infrequently that it's almost silly to ask, but when it does happen... it's annoying.

Occasionally my recording app crashes for unknown reasons. This isn't new, I've seen it happen over the course of multiple setups. When it does happen, simply shutting down the app and restarting it again never works. I have to shut down and restart SCOPE as well. It seems as though the app can't find the ASIO drivers unless I restart SCOPE too. Is that normal behavior? Is there a reason why that happens? I assume the app grabs control of the ASIO drivers and doesn't let go after crashing. Does that sound like a reasonable explanation? Is there a fix for that or is that just the nature of how SCOPE (or any audio interface) works? This crashing doesn't happen often at all (luckily)

I sometimes have this in Cubase - it just seems to lose the ASIO and even though Scope is still working restarting Cubase it can't see the ASIO. It's happened enough for me to notice but not enough to be bothered by it. Luckily Scope reboot is pretty quick and Cubase 9 seems much faster than previous versions to reboot. Which DAW program are you using?

If I understand the issue correctly, i usually get around this by going into scopes ULLI settings and switching the master/slave setting back and forth, instead of restarting scope.

At the moment I'm using Samplitude, but I'm sure I've seen this in other apps too over the years. SCOPE has been my primary interface almost since I started this studio so that's been the only constant in an ever-changing universe.

SCOPE on the XITE platform is a little slower to boot up than with the PCI cards. It's really noticeable on larger projects.

I saw the crashing more recently because of a major Samplitude upgrade I installed. I was trying to open older projects in the new version and there have been some inconsistencies, or incompatibilities, between versions. Usually these things get ironed out over time but it reminded me that it still happens. I was just curious. I'll try that ULLI settings suggestion the next time it happens. Thanks!

It happens here too !

When cubase (5, 8 or 9) crashes 95 times on 100, when I check if it's really closed in the windows task manager, I can see it's still there and impossible to end. I must restart the pc. Now, with SSD, it's much faster, with HD it could take 5 or 8 mn if there were some big sample libraries.
And 5 times on 100, cubase is really closed in the task manager but doesn't find Scope asio drivers (even if Scope is running) --> restart pc anyway !

Next time it happens, I'll try to change ULLI like Pastor says to see...

Since I've been using VoiceMeeter this never happens anymore.

yes, the app that crashes is holding on to the driver. restarting Scope resets the driver. this is not really a Scope issue.

Yea, it happens here too, time to time.
If Cubase stops working or simply shutdowns, i then also shutdown Scope and here we go again :)
Mostly i think are faulty VST versions, cause i had one problem just few days ago with VST instrument, while loading VST instrument in project, Cubase stops working and shutdowns,
so i figured out at the end it was bad VST version, cause earlier version works just fine.
So, if i load sometimes big project with lots of different VST instruments, i see those freezes in Cubase and then re-loading everything again, Scope + Cubase.

Switching host/slave switch in the ULLI doesn't always work.
Have to restart Scope for Samplitude to see ASIO.
Luckily Scope doesn't crash, so I often save my Scope project first before restarting.
It IS a hassle, but only happens on rare occasions.
