still having crackles sonic core 5.1 64 bit z800

Post by Manomars »

I thought i had it al working but i still have crackles on my Z800 with reason 9 and pulsar 2.
The best results with acceptable latency is at 96 Khz 512 buffer. But still i hear a crackle sometimes like every 5 seconds.
I did everything i supposed to do in the bios. I chanched the latency wait time for the pci bus what give me better results. I stopped the usb sharing the irq but no results.
Cant find anything to change my irq setting on w10.
If i use asio for all it says driver beyond logic.

If i go to the highest buffer settings on 44.1 i have no problems.
but that makes no sense of having the pulsar 2 for low latency purpose.

Finaly i think i will drop the pulsar 2 and get me a RME pci-e card unless someone can help me out.

I recently had the same struggle. Try Latency Monitor (http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon) to see what drivers or hardware could be causing the trouble, then proceed to update or disable said drivers / components.

If that doesn't work, and even if it does, you should try Process Lasso (https://bitsum.com/), which will give you a lot more control over the OS timers and application behavior. Set the Energy Profile to "Bitsum Higher Performance", give Scope and the DAW "Above Normal" priority, and "Exclude from ProBalance", and you should be fine. You can also set Scope to use a single CPU core.

Even though I made progress with Latency Monitor, and tweaking the system to get rid of all unwanted activity, in the end, what really made my system usable was Process Lasso, so maybe you could give that a try. Both are free to use, and there are some posts here on Z about it, just do a search and you'll find some more info.

Good luck!

you cannot change irq settings, but you CAN disable USB controllers that share irqs with the card...

what vsti plugins are you running when you get clicks? are you just maximizing your resources?

Did some testing.
Latency monitor says i have to adjust cpu throtling but i cant do nothing more.
Got Lasso on bitsum setting and gave scope highest priority.
Even my Behringer umc404 on usb got better latency.

Im realy disappointed did testing on a total of 3 computers, invested in a new system and all for nothing.
Wish i never upgraded to scope 5.1 and stayed at 32 bit sfp 4.5
Dont now if i can get a restitution from sonic core as i need some money to invest in a rme card
Otherwise i have to sell the pulsar to get some of my money back.

Oh crap

did you disable power stepping(EIST) in the bios?

this isn't a driver issue, most likely.

in the z800 on latest bios there is no eist
U can switch of intel turbo boost in energy savings as i did.
On my other systems i switched of eist but same results.
I will test again on other 1366 sys with clean install but i beginning to fear nothing helps.

which processor is in the z800?

if it's the QC Xeon, it has Hyperthreading, Turbo AND Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology(EIST).

that processor has EIST, Turbo and Hyperthreading.

all three need to be disabled, so that the Processor runs at full power and so that offline processes don't interfere with realtime processes.

there IS EIST. Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology AKA processor stepping.

you should also run the CPU at 100% minimum and maximum in the Windows power settings.

this power setting may also help:

Finally got it working.
Eist wasnt a option in the bios of the z800
In the energy management i put runtime energy management of and that did the trick.
I can now get clean sound on every latency setting and sample rate.
Thanks Gary for pushing me to look further.

Tkanks guys,

Still got some problems, when chancing settings like master slave give me bluescreen.
Low latency is great but i need more reliability.

I have put my card on sale now on ebay toghether with a motu traveller with broke firewire ports for 450 euro
I just dont need the synths and stuff and its becoming to much of a project instead of working on live performance.
For now i'll use it but if i have a buyer i'm up to a RME card.

Btw: for the z800 if u put turboboost on in the bios the option eist appears. So it was hidden al the time but was off.
