Problems wen running several PCI cards

Post by FernandoHood »

Hello,
I have been getting problems running scope with several PCI cards.
Wen-ever i have 2 or more cards connected I get the screen like in screenshot1, or i get an error to check the STM connection, I have gone thru BIOS settings, windows settings, power settings, device manager...

I cant figure this out... This is happening on a brand new build with a few months old, so really doubt its any faulty hardware issues like MOBO etc..

Its extremely annoying because it seems to happen half the times I want to load Scope, sometimes unplugging the PCI cards and connecting them again works, but I simply refuse to do this every time I wanna start scope.there have to be other ways to get this working a bit better!

None of these issues appear wen iam using a single PCI card,
thanks

donno how the "PCI subsettings" at the BIOS relates to the issues, but i took a screenshot anyway, I don't understand what are those settings about so leaving them as Default

try reseating the i/o cards on the Pulsar2. carefully remove the 4 nylon screws and pry up the i/o card. if you have contact cleaner, you can clean the pins, too. then reseat.

also, if you have another s/tdm cable, i would try swapping it.

strange, i had several different mobos, scope cards connected in mixed ways. but never had such an issue,
so,
how many cards do you want to connect , 2, 3 ?
what are your specifications, mobo model, which windows ...
sharing anything which can cause a problem ... between pci slot and other ... (pci-e, usb, network ...) ?
cleaning like garyb mentioned ...

bios settings should be fine ...

i have no real idea, but would try anything what i can (if this was my case)... :)

Ive run 3 cards ( 2 luna2 + 1 pulsar 2) in several machines with one STDM and never had this issue. I would keep fingers away from gold contacts due to static though...

fingerprints are almost worse than static.

the i/o card will come off. you just need to apply some pressure. don't jerk it, just apply as much pressure as needed until it moves. try to lift it evenly.

Win7 64bit
Mobo: z97 Msi gaming 3
On PCIE slot have a gfx card: Msi r9 390x
don't have alot of stuff in usb, i do however have a another soundcard connected at the same time a small Steinberg ur22, that i use wen scope is refusing to work or for Youtube/movie/gaming etc... don't believe the issue is coming from here!

What i just did: Moved the main card to the top pci slot and other cards moved bellow it, read on some post here that scope prefers if we use the first PCI slot for the main card. (sry dont have the link to the post). Anyway cleaned all cards properly too, it seems to be loading better now, but i will need more time t test.

thnks forthe help

I noticed a few things in your BIOS. I have my PCI latency timer set to 96. You should try that. 32 is too fast from my experience, but don't go too far down, 128 is too slow. Also turn off both hardware prefetch and cache line prefetch.
