Post by BoBiS »

Can i use this:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/DHL-Free ... .98.eQh7bC
to connect scope 14 dsp card to modern computer (with only PCIe slots)?
Does anyone have experience with that?

Thanx!

i don't know anyone that has tried that adapter. it may be very under powered for a 14dsp card, i can't tell how it is powered. usually these boxes have their own power supply and the inexpensive ones usually do not provide enough current for more than one card, often not enough for anything with more than 6 dsps.

in addition, external adapter boxes always suffer from reduced PCI performance, although this is ok for some people.

i really think that it's easier to just put the card in a machine that it likes. you can still get very new motherboards with PCI slots that work. B75 and H97/Z97 motherboards work very well. this would be the cheapest route in the long run. you could buy a machine once and have plenty of power for quite some time to come.

it's most certainly powered via USB-3.0 (checkout specs in Wiki)
usual hint: I'd rather run Scope on it's dedicated XP box from a small SSD and connect it via Adat to a 'modern' machine
this requires an additional Adat card, but also removes Scope's GUI handling from the DAW, which IS a big advantage
so much more convenient to have the Scope Window not interfere with the DAW
(you'd put it on a dedicated screen anyway... and TFT's are bargain today)

cheers, Tom

ok, if you plan to use the card as stand-alone hardware, you can find an old core2 machine for almost free. just connect to a card in the sequencer's machine via ADAT and/or analog.

They do work. Check my reply in this thread

http://forums.scopeusers.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=34089

At least the one i use does and its a cheaper one similar to what OP posted but has four slots. I would question the power supply of the the one you posted Bobis. I used a 550watt for my four cards.

I just checked the link i gave in the other thread and it isnt working. Here is the version where they supply the case and psu

http://www.virtuavia.eu/shop/pcie-2-x-p ... n-box.html

Their cased version is not recommended because the case is too small and psu to small. The one shown here has 2 pcie and 2 pci where as mine had 4 pci. Check if they still have the 4 pci atx version.

They still have the text in that add talking about the their ATX version in red but the link goes to a general page. I think you would just need to email them. They just supply the chassis main board which has standard miniatx holes for atx case, the cable which is just a repurposed dvi cable and easily replaced, and the pcie card. You then use an old pc atx case and psu.

I'm not running daw on this computer so I didn't check the asio driver.
