UEFI is just the new name for BIOS.
the adjustments are basically the same, afaik. the main difference is in how the settings are accessed.

if you are using a 15 year-old card with the very latest motherboards, there is a good chance that there will be trouble. upgrades are not always a good thing(i don't know what your exact problem is, though). :)

Just sub- par performance in terms of clicks and pops, and PCI capacity/loss of communication way before even half my dsp jar ...

I am still tweaking and improving things - but besides buying a graphics card (Im running on MoBo graphics) there are some Bios parameters which might help (as this really doesnt seem like acceptable behavior ... For example, I cant run cubase 8.5 at the lowest ULLI setting @ 44.1 without pops and clicks - even on a barely empty project)

I am going to send you a proper msg about it - but heres a bit of jumping the gun ;)

In my bios - there is an option for PCI device ROM:

UEFI OpROM or Legacy OpROM

Should I use Legacy ?

you can certainly try it.
Windows 10 will likely prefer UEFI, but i'm not sure it matters.

i don't know anything about your system, so i really don't know. generally, i can't see any issue with running a traditional BIOS instead of UEFI, EXCEPT for the latest OS with the latest motherboard. very new systems may only work correctly using UEFI. making changes to UEFI is done from the OS, not at boot, afaik.

I guess my only concern is not bricking my system.

My system is a new i7 with H97-D3H mobo

That setting exists in my BIOS (though I dont know if it functions ...)

There are quite a few other "legacy" options - which I wonder if they might improvebthe situation.

Would limiting scope to one core (and freeing it from other processes help?)

P.S.
I'm running windows 7

it might help, but i wouldn't do that(use only one core). why buy such a fast processor to do that? i'd rather use something that works.

you don't need UEFI for win7 at all. changing over to legacy rom(BIOS) might require a redo of the os....

The new OS thingy is one of those things that scare me with all these tweaks - although it states that its only related to PCI ...

Maybe I will open a thread dedicated to this mobo and ask for tips .

I also wanted to ask about a recommended video card - as I think all the cubase 8.5 graphics are weighing the realtime performance down ...
I will also put that in the new thread and stop hijacking this one ;)
