Sound Card Problem

Post by bigdealz »

I have a power pulsar card which I have had for about 4 years now. My system crashes most days and my computer guy says it is most definitely the card. The problem is that I live near the sea and the card has some corrosion.

Does anyone know if these cards can be refurbished with this type of problem?

Thanks

Simply removing the card (1 screw, plus the ones from the computer case) will give you exclusion on weither it's the card causing the problem. And what if you're not running the Scope OS - not even in the tray? If it keeps crashing without the Pulsar, put it back and remove/swap another PCI card...

good point at0m - and it's worth to inspect the lower part of the card just around the slot connector.
I've recently seen one that must have come into electrical contact with something around the slot.
One of the lines was fried and that card was also judged 'misbehaving'.

Thanks for your replies.

I have had it to my computer guy 3 times now to check it all out. He has tested the system thoroughly - irq conflicts, ram, video card, operting temperature etc. He has taken the card out and the machine operates perfectly. Put it back in, trying different slots and the problems begin.

There is definitly corrosion on the card. My 02R desk died a few months ago with the same problem. They said it's not worth trying to fix because of the level of corrosion. I am in Queensland Australia right near the coast. We get high humidity in summer, lots of rain and of course the salt air from the surf.

If it can be fixed, then I guess I'll just have to send it away.

as it's such a long way... you could post a close distance photo here.
If your cam lacks a macro, just hold a magnifier glass in front of the lens... :D
