my guess, too. There are 2 pairs of unused solder pads for smd parts near the rear cable connector of the Pulsar One, so it's obviously more than just the cable.

you might include one of the 'gates' from effects menu and build your own perfect one. If you have the Modular (?) there are even more possibilities. dunno if this works with yamaha but worth a try:
the Casio DH200 calibrates itself on powerup to current airpressure. If you suck air through the thing while switching it on, it gets fooled by the sub-pressure
and gets more sensitive.
