I use the Optical SPDIF. You have to use the right-side (when you are facing the Pulsar card) optical connection on the Pulsar, the left one won't do it (at least on my setup). I usually have to set Pulsar to slave -- optical or coaxial -- to hear anything.

I'll try to answer one question for you about the environment. In general, you'll want to create a "multiinstrument" in the environment. There's a little Mini-menu in the Environment window you can pull down to create those. This will give you one block of 16 MIDI channels. Call it Pulsar ...

The STS series is not too hard to learn the basics. As has been stated many times in other forums, the STS is basically an AKAI 1000/3000 series in soft/hardware. 1. To create a program from scratch: (a) create a program in the main STS window; (b) create keygroups in the Keygroup window; (c) add sa...

Any EMU sound libraries bought direct from the EMU store are pretty good, although a little bit on the old side and you do have to tweak them a bit and add effects if you want that sound module "sheen". Same with the Roland company official CD (LDX, etc.) series. I've found that most Sampl...

Anybody hear any faint hint of support of OSX at the Messe? If Creamware wants to be considered serious in professional audio circles they'll have to go this route sometime (actually not something I'm looking forward to it, I like OS 9.xx).

If I were going for just the preamp I would pick the Joe Meek.

If you need a mixer (especially a first budget mixer) the 1202 isn't bad for the preamps but all the other mixer functions do tend to affect the preamps, in other words, extra noise.

If you hurry right now, there's a SCOPE SRB on ebay.de that you can buy "right now" for 1750 Euros (about $1550 US). Or maybe you can buy it for me since it's really cheap..

Nope, no other devices. Just load the STS5000, go to the top bar and type in 52 or more voices and I'm out of DSP power. I'm working in thousands of colors on my Mac but reducing to 256 colors has rarely done anything positive. <font size=-1>[ This Message was edited by: Gregory on 2002-03-08 11:33 ...

My original message was a little incorrect (which is why I'm just aspiring to Pulsar Geekdom). I actually didn't get PCI overflow when I tried to achieve 64 voices, I simply got the "out of DSP" power message. But I guess my G4 being a PCI Graphics still had something to do with it running...

A G4 400 Mhz PCI Graphics Mac.

The STS5000 alone with absolutely nothing else in the window and no programs loaded will give me that message when I try to go to 64 voices.

I have a 10 DSP system and it's impossible to get 64 voice polyphony without PCI overflow. I assume that 1 Scope board would handle this comfortably, but before I think about spending $2500 I would just like to confirm this.

I'm on a G4 Mac by the way.

Well, as a patron of both Guitar Center and Mars Music, just make sure you get the salesperson to really look in their computer inventory. Sometimes these people don't know what they've got in their own warehouses. A little insistence is good. It took me a month to get a Creamware card out of Guitar...

You better take all those smilies seriously.

But seriously, I would say anywhere between March 1 and June 30. Creamware usually hits a three month window with their releases when they announce a date, which actually isn't too bad in the music software world.

I think with the SCOPE Fusion concept they are going to really clearly define their concept. You have the Baby (the Luna, the PowerSampler), the Kid (the Pulsar II) and the Grownups (PowerPulsar and Scope). You can mix and match however you like and according to however much money you can afford. Th...

I've been reading the Music Mags awhile and it's true that Creamware has a better ad presence in Europe than America. In the American ads their presence is either ineffectual or just downright bad (blame it on the ad agencies, I think). You need to get Future Music magazine or Computer Music magazin...

Regarding the EX5. I liked mine but it had a couple of strange points. One of its selling points was that it was capable of five different types of synthesis; four of those types of synthesis ate up a lot of processing power so you could only use one track of them at a time in the 16 track sequencer...

I can comment on the Fostex VC8. Yes it will connect very well via ADAT to the Pulsar. It has RCA connections on the back to plug in your outboard gear. If you have sensitive ears you might not like it because there's a little background hiss that most people won't notice but I'm sure pros will. But...

Yes, if you're a techie and know how to fine tune a Windows system. Pulsar works great but it's not a plug it in and forget it system. The synths are great, the audio routing is extremely flexible, the Samplers are pretty good (still a few bugs). There's only three other cards that are anything like...
