I don't fear the amp with a fan. Your computer has a fan and should be in a 'machine room' (ideally) or closet away from your listening area. Put the amp in the same location. Amps that put out a lot of power tend to either have fans or a very high price tag (or both) And you want a lot of power if ...

Hi TRMP8R, Those micro form factor PCs look tempting, but the reviews I've seen all mention power supply wattages that are downright puny. And Creamware cards sure do seem to like plenty of watts. Show me a micro form factor that will house a couple of Scopes or Pulsar IIs + clock as well as a 400 o...

Hi mgranger, The power supply could still be the noise culprit in your system. The noise you described as coming from your Creamware card appears to be induced noise (i.e. electrical noise) which can result if not all is well in your system. The noise which your power supply is most likely designed ...

You are making Australian music (or at least music from Australia) so why not use an Australian mic' such as the Rode? Start with local ingredients then add the imports later. I presume you already have the Creamware sfp environment, so maybe look at putting all the pre budget toward the pre itself ...

What's all this about a Pultec emulation? How about supporting Celmo who has had the Pultecator available for a long time. The price is dirt cheap (maybe that's a problem for some people), it's available right here, and the results - well, I try not to use the Pultecator on everything because it alm...

Amazing the amount of processing in such a (relatively) simple-looking device. I'm very impressed. Celmo's devices are threatening to join that pantheon of things I would consider buying even if I couldn't hear them first. (You know, things like TAD drivers, ELA-M mikes, Pultec, UREi, Brook Siren, M...

Does the DBX pre have an unbalanced out? If so, try that and see if it lowers the noise floor a bit. Ultimately, the cure will probably involve getting a quieter (i.e. more expensive) mic pre, if - indeed - a cure is needed. Depending on where the noise is situated in the frequency spectrum, you may...

Thanks Digilogue! You did a great job with the converter. I'm looking forward to the 32 track module. I guess you've got some decisions to make re: bank shifting. The 24 channel mapping you came up with makes a lot of sense. Best of luck on the 32 as well. I hope it will be as stable as the 24. Cong...

elian, If you want to create a sharper cutoff, simply keep cascading high-pass or low-pass filters. But why? I named the two classiest crossover lines I know of - BSS and XTA - other than a dedicated speaker control system (e.g. EAW) and they do not exceed 24 dB per octave. Why? Consider that everyt...

eliam: I'm not sure what you mean when you speak of a sharp filter to 'very precisely' divide the frequencies. The most common slopes are 6 deciBels per octave, 12 dB per octave, 18 dB per octave and (my favorite) 24 dB per octave. I suppose you could use a steeper slope, but why? If 24 dB per octav...
