i always need limiting on a live instrument recording (preferably b4 the ad converter). live sound has a dynamic range of approx 140db the recording can handle maybe 100-110 db and the db scale is logarithmic.so- the live sound has a range of soft to loud perhaps 10,000 times what the recording can ...

reading this post reminded me of something i read in the pulsar manual,so i checked the manual out.i'm sure i'm stating the obvious and you're aware of the entries in troubleshooting and "scope + pulsar",but i thought i'd mention it to see if it helps.
