Re: Suddenly cracks in adat
Just one more precision I cannot have something good at 44.1 kHz whereas at 48 it looks ok. That reminds me on my Digidesign 882/20 that would fail on 44.1khz, too (with Scope), regardless if set as master or slave. It just couldn‘t do it... while 48khz was ok. You might loopback the Adat ports loc...

Re: Suddenly cracks in adat
That part is a voltage regulator, imho they are fairly robust. Most common sources of trouble are the caps indeed, the SMD versions quite often fall off and are sensitive to mechanical stress (hit) when plugging the card into the slot. https://forums.scopeusers.com/viewtopic.php?t=36946 shows a pic ...

Sorry, I should have noticed it earlier... but the cap between the 2 rightmost DSPs has fallen off

Re: Does this look like a cracked solder joint to you?
Nice photos, but unfortunately meaningless: with these caps the real solder joint sits below the cap and is invisible. During production the heated solder simply floats the pad on the circuit board and only the peripheral part of that pad is visible. ps: that‘s not entirely correct because the 2 con...

Re: Needing Scope 4.5 for Mac Installers
1 I wouldn‘t hold my breath on it, but have a faint memory that (at least most) multi cpu problems were solved in OS9.2.
2 Handling of serials is identical to Windoze.
3 Iirc VDAT and the STS samplers never existed on Mac.

Re: Saturn synth origin
You‘re correct: there was an article in that mag and the author described the process of creating Saturn.
Unfortunately I disposed that issue ages ago... (but it still may be online somewhere, wayback machine or so).

Thanks for this extensive, yet compact explanation... excellent.
Looks like I got a couple of things wrong, but the current state is an improvement anyway - let‘s what the future brings...

Re: It seems I will be joining the Xited side of the force after all
Not sure if it fits this context, but I‘ll take the opportunity to explain my own decision against an Xite. (which I could have afforded due to lucky circumstances recently - and I deeply regret my non SC supportive purchase of a bunch of 2nd hand cards) I like the „old stuff“, in particular by John...

Re: Sonic Core A16 problem
The switch from my A16:
Size is 22.6mm x 6.6mm with a kind of integrated plastic spring to keep it in position.
Anything with less than 23mm height and 6.5mm width will fit through the front panel slot.
It‘s a regular light bulb switch, nothing particular.

You could as well bridge the switch and instead switch the external PSU (or just plug it in/out for some time)...

Re: Scope card and surround/atmos in cubendo
I have no Win10 experience, but in previous OS versions it was‘t cool if Scope shared with the graph card IRQ.
Try to move Scope to the other PCI slot and check if things improve.

Well, just stating the obvious: you have to trust the seller... if it‘s someone who posted here (more or less) regularly, you may assume it‘s not a person making a living on fraud. Some risk remains, as items can get lost on the way or the seller is in severe financial trouble. Dunno British import ...

Re: AKAI Samplers Floppy Replacement
Nice stack... 8) The 2000XL would have been my choice, if an MPC4000 with all expansions hadn‘t shown up locally. But you don‘t need a floppy expansion. The 2000XL has an internal IDE port so (almost) any card reader will fit. No hot swapping usually, but that may be compensated by size of cards. Yo...

Re: AKAI Samplers Floppy Replacement
I suspect the CF cards a bit more. I had dozens of them when I tried to make them working on a Roland SP808. The SP808 has an ATA port, not an IDE one (both may have identical connectors) and it was stunning how much variation there was with different CF cards. It didn‘t work out and I sold the mach...

It‘s never too late...
Sorry, can‘t help with the Eiffel65 tracks, but recently got a 20 years old Akai sampler, which may lead me to eventually use the STS samplers that I ignored all the time

Re: AKAI Samplers Floppy Replacement
Yes, it avoids the problem I mentioned above when the sampler directly communicates with the flash storage medium.
(in theory it shouldn‘t matter because SCSI just presents a block device... )
It‘s also cool that you can simply add a CD (or HD) image to it. Good find
