Re: The end of an era
wow, it truly was an era. Feels like Cakewalk's been around forever, though I've never personally crossed paths with it. I didn't even know Gibson owned it.

Re: Synth UI - Synthesis made understandable
Oh right, I gotcha. Yes, this takes advantage of the screen for what it is. There's very little to gain by trying to force the screen to turn in to a hardware controller. Maybe a flat surface 'ribbon' like controller, but that's about it. Much more useful for visualizations, which most of what a scr...

Re: Synth UI - Synthesis made understandable
yeah, I think this sort of presentation makes synthesis more accessible, though I wouldn't call it a necessity. It does help to have a solid grasp on what the individual modules do, and how they are wired together, and how each parameter affects the behavior of the modules. Visualizing them definite...

wow, this is pretty impressive! running on such a tiny thing. How do you program the thing? And how do you get audio out?

Re: Rainlink
hopefully it won't become like USB where every frickin' company has their own interpretation of it. And worse yet, the socket fits! How confusing is that.

Re: song to sell corns finally recorded
thanks for the compliments guys. Yes, the music is a bit on the crazy side. Or, well, "whimsical" maybe. I wanted it to feel like all these interesting disparate pieces were coming together but nooot quite. So like you can't quite tell if it wants to stay in one piece or crumble and fall a...

song to sell corns finally recorded
The vocal recording was supposed to be back in July so the song could be performed during the corn season, but it got pushed to October! So we're in the pumpkin season and root vegetable season and still singing about (reminiscing?) about corns. Anyway, cleaned up the mix a bit to better house the f...
Re: Rainlink
a MIDI replacement is long overdue, tho there's a bit of a "I want my own walled garden" undertone to all this. Which tends to be at odds with trying to set up a widely adopted standard.

Re: Remake of an old C64 song: tusker
I'm not sure if you want this to sound contained or big and spacious. The song itself has a spacious quality (grandness) to it so I think it'd be interesting to put the whole thing in a much larger space with explosive drums, like more of that stadium sound. The symphonic elements would probably ben...

Re: Europa Shapeshifting Synthesizer
I think Zebra's got this covered in a major way, but it's cool to have a more focused synth with similar capabilities. Zebra's powerful but a drag to create patches for because there's too much going on. Waveform wise I don't see how something like this couldn't be built in S|C platform, but maybe i...

Re: Pianoteq 6
lol, yeah v2 was still primitive. They really did leap forward with v4, and seems like improvements have been fairly incremental since. It's still amazing it's possible to incrementally keep improving though. It's also interesting that CPU load is still very manageable, negligible even, so the reali...

Re: Pianoteq 6
The stuff just gets getting better and better. I stopped fussing about pianos back in Pianoteq 4. It's not perfect, but it does what I need it to do, and does it very well. Time saved and energy saved.

Re: Korg Prophecy 1995
brings back fond memories. Was a big time Trinity/Triton Tri whatever back then, and had lots of fun programming the MOSS stuff. Then I kicked into high gear and went full Nord Mod. Powerful, but has a different sonic personality compared to MOSS. I think MOSS has a distinct sound, like it wanted to...

this sounds more like music for documentaries, so maybe that is an avenue of pursuit as well. Nice sound, feels a bit sad in general, but definitely mystical.

shocking, my Yamaha P-115 doesn't have clavs
I was messing around with my P-115 (replaced old P250) mainly used for my daughter's piano lessons.. and found it has no clavinets. Sort of surprising for a hardware piano instrument, but oh well, I guess I can be quite funky with a harpsichord instead. I don't disagree with the choice though, since...

Re: how to make the ultimate solo
I was listening to Kenny Werner the other day. I adore his sound and love listening to him play, but I also thought I don't have that sound in me. I think I have a bit more energy and less fluidity, more innate funk to the sound. I think my compositions as a whole have a distinctive quality to them,...
