Right, which is exactly what made me finally decide to get in on the action--the 1.8 Prestonia's (that's the 512k cache btw) are like $200 cheaper than the 2.0's tho so I think I'll get in on the ground floor and swap up in a year to 2.4Ghz or whatever the socket 603 tops out at. The neatest thing a...

Yeah it appears he's only running 1 cpu. I wouldn't hold my breath on creamware supporting SMP anytime soon, although it would make life much easier. As for the Asus MPX board, I think I'll pass on the the first rev's of any board thanks ;] Although Tyan certainly put the northbridge through the wri...

atomic that syntax looks fine. Grusic, I tried using the interrupt affinity filter for the Pulsar's driver (the filter only affects hardware, ie drivers) and found that the software (pulsar.exe) was no longer able to find the card for some reason. Tried using both cpu1 and 0 as the mask, but anytime...

the MPX chipset seems to offer more pci bandwidth, in addition to the 64bit being a full 66mhz now, with the caveat that the pci bus uses the 64bit channel for itself so if you use a 33mhz card it will reduce the throughput and limit the pci bus as well as the 64bit slots. But yes, the Asus looks li...

Well Havoc, if you're saying you're not sure you can RMA the board, I'd suggest going back to the 2cpu forums and gathering a list of things wrong with the pre-rev1.03 boards and using those as your reasons. Not *entirely* ethical, but when I need IRC to work calling tech support and telling them th...

I should amend that to 'parts for a new machine' in general. I'm still too wary of the MP/MPX chipset until I hear more positive reviews from the Pulsar camp...(or Scope/Luna yadda yadda). But I will have to admit that having an entire machine built for the cost of the xeon mobo/1 proc/memory is cer...

Well subhuman's update seems promising, and the word that i've been hearing is that mpx increases pci bandwidth again (although it still uses pci only for the nort/south connection thereby reducing bandwidth again). I think i'm going to go xeon tho, unless someone can confirm that pulsar works well ...

I agree with Havoc, I've been on dual machines sun my old Sun machine spanked my SGI Indigo II in 96, with a dual pentium-133 for dessert. These days it's all Intel and I no longer focus on graphics and 3d as much, but for overall responsiveness I'll take a dual proc anyday. Intel with their 'Jackso...

I actually got it off a guy in #midiwarez EFnet who has a Pulsar 1 (not installed) and we were discussing using the Creamware stuff in dual cpu mobos. Conversation turned to the problems that Sblive!s have in dual setups and he mentioned that he's using the filter tool on his sblive, so he sent me t...

I'm attempting to bind the driver for the Pulsar to either cpu1 or 0, rather than just the app by using task manager. However, using the Interrupt-Affinity filter and setting a mask renders my Pulsar unusable upon reboot. To make things even more confusing, there seem to be 2 copies of pulsar runnin...

Ok, so I think I'm about to plop down the $1200 or so this weekend, have to forgoe the Lian Li PC70 for a lesser case *sigh* but everything else I want looks doable with a Tiger rather than Thunder being in my budget. Before I run out and do this, I'd like to hear from the few of you out there runni...
