Re: is Intel integrated graphics (non F cpu) worth it ?
I thought he was referring to General Partition Tree (GUID/GPT partition instead of MBR).

Re: is Intel integrated graphics (non F cpu) worth it ?
I have no problems using AMD or Nvidia along with an Intel IGP. Older laptops are certainly more of an issue, but this is because many of those implement the chipset in a way that means you can't use the off the shelf (AMD/Nvidia) drivers and rely on the manufacturer for all driver updates--meaning ...

Re: Installing Windows on Unsupported Motherboards
WIn10 should work, no reason it's not supported. If you're going by what drivers are exposed on the motherboard maker's website, simply search for those same drivers from the original vendor. In most cases even the smaller chipsets on a board (audio codecs, extra ports etc) will have drivers either ...

You can use a V/Ohm meter to test continuity on the cable whip.

Re: STS bad MIDI timing...
Remember you are swapping some files between versions to make the samplers work, as they are *no longer supported*.

Re: STS bad MIDI timing...
What Gary is saying is that the STS Samplers were made at a time when they were quite competitive with the software samplers. Software samplers, when used entirely in a DAW context, not only have access to gigabytes of memory and disk (via disk streaming), but also have timing as accurate as the DAW...

Re: STS bad MIDI timing...
STS Samplers and MIDI both use main system memory in scope to function, and those connections to the systems are shown as ASYNC in the DSP meter. The busier the host system, the more impact this will have on timing. It may not be obvious what constitutes “busy” from Scope’s perspective either. Syste...

Re: Unusual behaviour.
The DSP chips themselves are built to withstand the heat, they are used in cars and industrial applications.
PCI boards lasting 20 years is approaching limits with heat, same with mainboards and system components, which is why I tend to invest in workstations & server boards where appropriate.

Re: Unusual behaviour.
The error only tells us that there's an attempt to communicate with that dsp and it failed. You have to test the board/components to find the flaw, or in most cases simply recap and check the additional (transistor I believe? or transformer) at the bottom of most of the cards to ensure it's still in...

Re: Unusual behaviour.
Yes, there’s a hardware issue of some kind developing. Solder, caps, and a few other components are typically a concern.

I don’t understand concerns about replacement. The Roland drum boxes (and TB303 etc) were met with the same concerns, yet people still play the drums and bass guitar.

What I was asking was what your first portion of your reply contained: how does object compare in terms of range of sounds as well as quality of synthesis. If I want an accurate instrument I will record it played by an excellent player, simple as.

Now we're digging into the meat of the discussion. I didn't think you implied it was just coming out, but if we're going to talk Physical Modeling let's cover the bases. Btw my interest in models, whether it's VA or circuit modeling, physical modeling, AI models or even physics models is how they ca...

Re: UVI Falcon
Logic's Physical modeling synth has existed for some time, AAS has a bevy of good 'physical modeling' synths, u-He released Twangstrom about 4-5 years ago (after a typical beta process) and there were karplus-strong synths going all the way back to the late 90's (there used to be a competitor to htt...
