Re: Great article Brooks: The Avalanche of Distrust

Re: Ageing card symptoms

way too far back in time
but be assured whenever I had this idea of 'caps may be aged', it NEVER changed a thing
(and I really had this idea more than a couple of times, not restricted to Scope cards) :D

Re: Ageing card symptoms

don't bother with caps - I suspected them a couple of times, ALL false alarms
on a Scope card those caps are just buffers for current, not functionally involved like in a preamp
the boards are quite hard to desolder, good chances to damage instead of repair...

btw Jordan Rudess copied the layout and playing mode of this instrument on his first synth on iPad (Geo-Synth)
makes him look a bit less 'innovative' than he appeared to be... :P
anyway - best of luck for the auction

Re: Where is VOID Synthesizer? Not in store aviable?

in past times many developers just used the method of adding the customer's name to the GUI without any further means of protection who buys such synth today must be an honest person by nature - imo that works quite well I'm using SAW Studio for years and they are still in business not big, but prob...

Re: ADAT connection

Andi means the mechanical 'click' you feel when you insert the optical cable ;) some connectors indeed don't fit very well into the back frame of the card a card may be positioned slightly asymmetric - can be corrected by untightening the card, insert the cable an re-tighten in that position or a di...

Re: Why does Sonic core Do No Marketing?

for years I've spent thousands on plugins (and that's not literally), just to see the suppliers go out of business... Scope has a technically brilliant background, but it just doesn't integrate smoothly into current DAW environments it's way too demanding... just consider DSP assignment on one hand ...

Re: Higen - long long float

yes, it was quite in the beginning and it seemed to me that it was some modulated noise source (which wouldn't be unusual for an electro hi-hat) but: I may have had a routing error on my monitors (as they serve 3 systems), will check again... the mentioning of Vince Clark or NewOrder was more for fu...

Re: connect Scope (14 dsp) with PCIe to PCI external enclosu

it's most certainly powered via USB-3.0 (checkout specs in Wiki) usual hint: I'd rather run Scope on it's dedicated XP box from a small SSD and connect it via Adat to a 'modern' machine this requires an additional Adat card, but also removes Scope's GUI handling from the DAW, which IS a big advantag...

Re: Higen - long long float

I'm not genre-savvy...
but there's also some touch of New Order and Vince Clark to it
did you intentionally leave the huge headroom ?
if listened with low level, it makes the track a bit dull
one single complaint: the noise hi-hat ... the rest is cool 8)

Re: Cheap (Really Cheap) Go Anywhere MIDI Setup

yes, it depends on sample and recording needs if I track vocals/guitar with microphones 1 hour is about 1 GB, adding 2 backing tracks would result in 3 GB total my biggest instrument is the Mellotron with 2GB, the guitar stuff about 1 GB, a couple of groove samplers with another 2 GB total but for s...

it's a (sad) matter of fact that the opposite is true - which has been discussed here years ago
the rest of the story can be figured out by checking who left the platform as a commercial developer

Re: Cheap (Really Cheap) Go Anywhere MIDI Setup

I have no experiences with refurbished units generally I found 'used' prices for iPads on eBay rather high in comparison to recent models from the shop my first iPad One was about $500, the later mini-2 (10 x processing power) and better converters just $300 even 'expensive' apps are neglectable com...

I use IOS all the time for it's simplicity - there is no install, no operating system buy an app, it get's tranferred to the device where you see just it's icon and that's about it switch on the tablet, choose one of those icons and there's nothing but functionality never seen anything that simple t...

Re: 32 or 64 bit

impossible to answer: for Scope it's pointless as there's no 64bit processing involved (simplified) - it can run in any adress space if 64bit makes sense for you, depends on your native software, DAW and Plugins... on a dedicated PC without internet use XP would still be my favourite choice I don't ...
