For the record, I found the culprit: my Logic XS-Key is detected as a HID usb-device (without actually being one) which messes up DirectInput on my music computer. Removing the XSKey solves the problem instantly. On my dual boot machine I disabled the XSKey in device-manager for normal windows use, ...

Thanks for all the replies guys, but directsound works perfectly. The problems I have is a messed up DirectInput module, which has nothing to do with sound input. Can you pls verify problems with DirectInput by running DxDiag, or by opening the GameController icon on your control panel? I strongly h...

thx Casper, but the DirectSound part works fine, and all tests perform well. But before testing, on starting DxDiag, it quits unexpectedly. Starting it again gives me a prompt telling me that it had trouble accessing DirectInput, and it asks me to skip the DirectInput test. I too thought about the g...

I've been running without swap now for quite some time, and it has never gotten me into trouble. The positive side of no swap it to have your programs fly. No swap, combined with tuning of the vcache (see various optimization topics) makes a huge difference for me, both in speed AND stability. (I ha...

Hi all, I have two similar machines, both equiped with Asus P4C800e Dlx mobo. Bios settings are the same, as is the WinXP SP2 setup. There's one major difference though: one of the machines have my pulsar and scope boards installed, the other uses on board sound (and is used for gaming). While tryin...

No need to reboot: in the explorer, under folder options, view, disable the "hide extensions for know file types". This will allow changing the extensions of registered filetypes.

Hehe, be careful now Chris.. we may not have your Reinheitsgebot, but I personally found out that doesn't always guarantee you get a proper beer in Germany  At least here in Holland it doesn't take 15 minutes to get your beer in a bar  And, if you don't like the Dutch beer, we're close t...

Well, first of all, obviously, get a bike :=D Then the area. Gouda and surroundings is ok, but would never come to my mind as the cycling area to start with. Great parts are north of Woerden: Kamerik, and then north to Wilnis, Mijdrecht, Vinkeveen. Be sure to check out the lakes over there (Vinkevee...

@hubird: you're right 'bout the tile-perspective, it was something I couldn't get right. Camera-possibilities were more limited then (as was my knowledge), than they are now in POV. It appears as if the upper left part of the scene is not part of the scene anymore. It was one of my first composition...
