Re: 64bit & PCI

Do you really need 3 x PCI slots? - Is 2 PCI a no go? - Asus and Gigabyte have 3 x PCI slots on H310 chipset - 2 fewer PCI-e chipset lanes than Z97 so 6 in total-not many but enough---and newer CPU's can be used

Computer stress

:)

https://ehorus.com/computer-stress/

Well we've all had issues getting things done but taking a break from some things I thought I'd search it and actually found something - although on the whole computer wise things are going quite well -

Re: Asus Crossblade Ranger

Yes, different machines for different tasks - and you've mentioned another couple of apps I've not even heard of (thanks)_ On RMA, I've dealt with Gigabyte for two boards to have a new socket for used boards that had bent pins -very smooth process -the only potential snag is the need to use MS EXCEL...

Re: Asus Crossblade Ranger

Ah Supermicro, I did speak to them and was considering one of their boards but never did get one !!! - I've heard they are very good. There was another industrial board that DAWMAN was talking about (forgot the name) which was for the Coffee Lake CPU's and XEON E processors equivalent to the 8700K -...

I'm aiming for a "one pc to run it all"-concept here, and I want to integrate my RYTM with Scope 7, so there's no real way around windows 10.

Thanks for the links Gary - I'll check them out!
Please explain what RYTM is :)

Re: Asus Crossblade Ranger

fraz, just a note that I was directing you towards potentially more informative resources. No need for me to score points here and if anyone DOES have an answer, they are certainly free to respond, as always. :) Yes I understand - :) It's actually quite common among the Asus motherboards - AI Suite...

Re: New Windows 10 installation - how should I tune it?

I can't comment on Windows services but I am interested in that to get the optimum installation. OK, I've created the Windows media installation tool - so it looks like what I bought off Amazon was exactly that but I didn't realize this. Due to the work I've got done there are no complaints and now ...

Re: New Windows 10 installation - how should I tune it?

I'm just creating one now - although I bought one from Amazon for around £14 which installs Windows 10 32 and 64. The one I'm creating from the link below is for 32 and 64 but I'm not sure if it is Windows 10 Pro or not - but I'll see how this pans out for the next install which may be helpful to yo...

Re: New Windows 10 installation - how should I tune it?

Have you got a USB installer for Windows 10? - If not, get one - it doesn't have to be a new copy of Windows 10 - Just a rescue/recovery/Windows 10 USB installer - I got one off Amazon a few days ago..... With the USB Windows 10 rescue/recovery/etc..... you install Windows 10 but use the Windows 7 l...

Interesting Windows update news

Hi, https://sonicstate.com/news/2019/01/10/new-windows-update-will-give-your-daw-more-plug-ins/ I found this by chance - :) - So later this year anyone with VEP or what ever is relevant like the guy with monster CPU's this may be helpful - :) So Windows 7 is good but maybe Windows 10 will be better ...

Re: Computer installation

Ah I was installing Windows 7 64 bit on this install - maybe this has something to do with it

I've done one or two Win 10 installs but mainly Win 7 at the moment - I think some files get overwritten.

You mention AOMEI for backup - I've not heard of this I'll look it up

Re: Computer installation

OK-just to elaborate on this. As the number of system builds grows so do the experiences of those installations. What I've found over a number of the builds is that once all the drivers are on and some basic apps are installed it is still quite bare bones install eg no Scope or other DAW software. F...

Re: Best mobo and cpu combo

Yes it's all a big hassle when it goes wrong - I've had a big problem myself today - with a slave build - where I can't get windows to install or even get the BIOS to post before windows is installed. I thought it could be a short circuit - motherboard is Gigabyte SOC Champion - I'll try another boa...

Re: Best mobo and cpu combo

Well yes it would have me a bit worried as I have one too - but I'd use the 8600 K - Would you try the 8700 K in another board? - just to see if it works? - How much was the board used with the 8700 K before there was a problem? - And how did the problem occur - eg - no bootup? - or was the computer...

Re: Best mobo and cpu combo

I hate computer issues. Did you have the "best" most suitable BIOS for the 8700 K? Have you tried "turbo mode" = OFF - (worth a try)- example-AMD FX9590 (derived from FX8350) only worked with turbo mode off https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/TUF-H310-PLUS-GAMING/HelpDesk_CPU/ BIOS support for your...

Re: Best mobo and cpu combo

Hello Micmac, Sorry to hear the CPU is damaged - are you sure the board didn't cause this? -I don't see why it should but it is a 6 core CPU on a very low end motherboard (I've got one)and I'll try it out soon with the i5 8600 K. Did you put enough thermal paste on the CPU? = The 8700 K is a powerfu...

Computer installation

Hi, Just thought I'd leave something here in the form of tips for when installation goes wrong. I don't really need to write this but it could be useful for someone who like me is not a computer genius - :) So, I've been putting operating systems on a disk or two for basic installations of Scope or ...

Re: Z170 build with 7700 K

There are lots of good PSU's - Cooler Master - Corsair - Thermal Take - Try to get a fully modular one - meaning the power cables dis-connect 100% from the PSU. Having Scope you shouldn like fully modular - ! Or you get a semi-modular where the 24 pin ATX power & 8 pin CPU power connector are connec...
