Re: Motherboard Update Part II
Hello I decided to get your recommended board Garyb: the IntelBoard DH55HC http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/m ... erview.htm Mainly because I could buy it easily. I'll worry about CPU, cooler etc... after my holiday. I hope it will work out. The salesman couldn't guarantee there would be no IRQ...

Re: Motherboard Update Part II
yes, i'm reasonably confident that you'll have success. naturally, you'll have to set the system up properly. there will be bios settings to change and probably a few usb ports to disable. i wouldn't expect quite the level of pci performance of say an old bx or 800 series chipset, but i would expec...

Re: Motherboard Update Part II
well, Sandy Bridge isn't cool at all for pci, although it WILL probably work. used will last as long as new, either a few days or many years. i go to places like Amazon to find older boards. here's a current Intel board with an 1156 socket and 3 pci slots: http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/moth...

Motherboard Update Part II
Hello Excuse me for again posting about updating my motherboard. It doesn't seem that the motherboard I would like based on the suggestions I got from my previous thread (the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3L) can be bought so easily. The best suggestion I have received so far was my original choice: ASUS P8P67 ...

Re: It is probably time to upgrade my PC
you may consider a different cooler than the Intel standard one. 50% less noise is easily achieved... My preferred brand is Scythe, but other ones will probably do as well (if you look for reviews in the net). cheers, Tom Thanks again. I didn't even think about that. I thought my Thermaltake tower ...

Re: It is probably time to upgrade my PC
probably... imh understanding Sandy is (mainly) about integrating the GPU into the CPU and a modified pipeline for (new) 256bit instructions (AVX). The onboard video stuff is total crap (I tried it...), even a 25 Euro card is a BIG advantage. You'll hardly find any plugins specifically coded...

Re: It is probably time to upgrade my PC
Hello Wow!! Thanks so far for all the responses. I now have the difficult task of finally choosing something. I can throw tons of plugins at it with barely a flicker of CPU usage where I used to get to 70% with pops and crackles quite quickly. With my 18DSPs and this setup I don't think I'll ever ne...

Re: Opinions on DynaTube
Hello Just thought I'd try out the Dynatube bundle again. Just a quick test without too much tweaking and only using Scope effects. I also just focused on distortion lead sounds. I'll test clean some other time. I agree with you that the Marshall model sounds best, but I also like the Marshall Amp a...

Re: Studio Monitor Stands
Hi Thanks for the DIY encouragement Garyb. Not 100% sure what you mean by the first pair. Is it the BS-300 or BS-342 ? I am usually influenced by price, believing the more you pay the better the product. The BS-300 cost 36 euro, BS-342 105 euro and the Japsers 136 euros. I tend to buy quality rather...

Re: Opinions on DynaTube
Thanks. I bought the Dynatube bundle ages ago. I have to say I am not really a fan. I find it has a kind of metallic undertone to it, a bit like the feeling you get when you put a piece of aluminium foil between your teeth. I wasn't able to get a sound that I liked, but maybe I didn't tweak enough. ...

Re: Studio Monitor Stands
It shouldn't matter that the plate is smaller - as long as the base of the stand is larger (obviously). Most people I know use Blu-Tack on the four bottom corners of the speaker to attach it safely to the plate. With that stuff the speakers will not fall off. Those stands are easily constructed: th...

Re: Studio Monitor Stands
Thanks for the answers. I am total crap at handyman stuff. Someone would have to do it for me. I realise that makes me sound useless. If I were stranded on a desert island with other survivors and there was no food, I'd be the first one eaten due to the little value I would serve. I'd like to think ...

Studio Monitor Stands
Hello I am revamping my studio space. I'm not just upgrading my computer, but also trying to make things more ergonomic and have a better listening environment than I do now. At the moment, my Mackie HR 824s rest on my Ikea Jerker desk, directly in front of me. I have read how ideally speakers shoul...

Re: It is probably time to upgrade my PC
Hello Thanks Astroman. Looks like the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3L is a very strong contender. Judging by Erminardi's experience, the prospects look good. It even has 4 PCI slots, which means my 3 cards will fit easily enough and just in case there are issues with IRQ (I've been told that is not the case th...

Re: It is probably time to upgrade my PC
Hello Once again thank you all for the help and advice. Just to be sure, the motherboard type/spec you suggest is more along the lines of: Asus P5K with Wolfdale E8400 or 8400 CoreDuo, but in a Gigabyte EP41 You say they are are far better choice, even if on paper they have lower specs than the most...

Re: It is probably time to upgrade my PC
You should be aware that modern motherboards don't use the same PCI technology as older ones. PCI is now tacked on to the PCI-Express bus. I tried my three Pulsar II cards in a new Gigabyte PA65-UD3 with i5-2400 CPU recently. This board has an H61 chipset and four PCI slots. I managed to open four ...

Re: Scope 5 problem + 96 Hz problem
Thanks for the tip Strattospere. I'll give it a try. It seems the other responses I got point that it could be driver related. I will wait a bit before trying version 5 of Scope for the time being as I want to create music without interruptions or hassles. I will try again when the creative juices s...
