Re: Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 Mic Pres Level

Valis, Thanks for the good post! That gives me something to work with. I think I found that mic inputs 1-4 record lower than 5-8, but they're all low; the knobs are sensitive at 9, mic distance sensitive - hard to get accurate comparison. Could be 2x lower. Using Asio or mme on the XP machine. On th...

Re: Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 Mic Pres Level

I tried it on another computer, and the level was good; Gain knob on 7 got a better level than on 10 on my computer. That computer is fancier and has Windows 7 - it assigned the default microphone to be the Saffire, with the volume setting all the way up. Maybe that's my issue, & why only the mi...

Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 Mic Pres Level

I bought a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40, and it works well with Scope, sounds good, etc. But the level of my mic preamps is low. Like if they're on 10 and speak into the mic capsule, the recording level is OK but still not that high. I don't see anyone else complaining about it on the web - I think it's...

Sync Plate and Kurzweil DMTI sync - I/O box

I'm about to put these on E-Bray, unless somebody here wants them. Say $145 USD each, and some shipping. The DMTI is a good box. It has I/O for Kurzweil, but also four spdif/AES i/o's and ADAT, with word clock. It's 44.1khz or 48 khz. I had two soundcards and Kurzweil coming into the Scope mixer wit...

Wireless disconnects with Scope

When I use the sampler or some synths in Scope for awhile, I lose my wireless internet connection. Does anyone know what to do to restore it without re-starting the computer? After Scope crowds it out, the repair or re-connect won't fix it, even after closing Scope. The wireless card is a Linksys WM...

Thumbtacks for docking windows in Scope

Especially for the samplers, I wish there were some kind of velcro or thumbtack so you could latch all those flippy-windows onto the device's body, or maybe onto the side of the live-bar. With the sampler, then you could fix the file-browser and maybe the pool in place onto the sampler so you could ...

Re: Volume Loss

Ahaa.. discovery: the raw-sample-playback parameters. The ones I was adjusting at first belong to the program's parameters. In the sampler, under Keygroups, then Options, it shows the sample filenames. There's a volume slider that's set to the middle-value by default. Clicking on Add. shows me a fil...

Re: Volume Loss

Normalize - I see what you mean - thanks!

In the STS sample editor, in the "level" menu, there's "Normalize".

You select all or part of the sample, then normalize it; scales up the amplitude.

Me: yes, yes, yes, yes, and maybe.

If you wanted to, Audacity is free, and with the plug-ins download, you can import batches of samples, amplify or normalize them and export them.

Re: Volume Loss

I would like to know about this, too. When I sample, or convert samples, they are often too quiet. Sometimes I need to fix the level of the filter, or the key range under "midi". One thing that works ( but I'm not sure if it's necessary ) is to amplify the samples - My Emu X2 will let you ...

Re: Scope Install or Hardware Prob?

Gary, Thanks for your help. Apparently I bumped some legs together on a Sharc chip, probably when changing drives. Of course I should have removed the card first, but, well, I'm a bass player. I was looking at the card under a magnifying lamp, or I wouldn't have noticed. I have straightened them, so...

Re: Scope Install or Hardware Prob?

It's a new install - nothing Scope starts up - no livebar, or anything else. I've installed it 4 times now, with uninstalling, restarting, remove old registry entry, restart, remove card, rename the old folder. I think it was last running at 48khz as master, last time scope was up. I suppose I could...

Re: Scope Install or Hardware Prob?

The card was repaired in October, because it had corrupted its card number making the keys not work. It got some error messages shortly after that, but they stopped completely, after I did all the stuff mentioned in this topic. It won't run any software, starting the other day when I started the com...

Scope Install or Hardware Prob?

My Scope 5 install has been working fine for awhile, then suddenly it wouldn't run. I started getting the ol' messages: "A communication error with Scope (board 0) has occurred. This can normally be corrected by reloading the dsp's..." (clicked on "Yes"), then: "Hardware cou...

Re: SFP5 - New features, fixes, bugs? SC-Ambience bug?

I like to use the SC-Ambience reverb with the samplers, but it goes wrong after awhile. It starts out good, then after playing for awhile, it gets jittery-sounding, like bad aliasing. It sounds kind of like bad loops in the samples, but the reverb's doing it. I've only used the stereo version of it ...

Re: PCI Capacity Limit Reached - loggable?

Bingo! I ran that app, and it showed a few of the red bars going by, and a few yellow ones. Green ones were a little tall. So I disabled my Linksys wireless adapter, and voila, the graph looked very smooth, just low-green ones. When I enabled the adapter again, I immediately got the PCI Capacity Lim...
