In the case of my plug in, you don't really need to assign pecific controller numeber to rotary encoder.
You use a basic preset and it is the CW plug that learn the Control number.

I think it's not a device that have to be oprned permanently but only or a precise calibration and alignment of your studio monitoring system ... then i think it should be kept closed.
