Installing Windows on Unsupported Motherboards

Hi All Has anyone ever installed a later Windows OS than what is supported by the motherboard? If so how did it go and was performance impacted by not having MB vendor drivers installed? I have an Asus P6X58D-E with Intel i7 980X and I'm currently running Windows 7 which is obviously pretty old now....

Re: Cool Gear PCI to PCI Expansion

Hmmmm reduced bandwidth could be more of an issue for me than latency. Basically, I have 3 x A16u’s connected to 2 x scope cards for all my outboard to mix in the box. Is the reduced bandwidth a result of the converters only supporting PCI 33mhz rather than 66mhz? I assume so given PCI-E bandwidth s...

Re: Cool Gear PCI to PCI Expansion

Thanks Valis I did see some old posts about Magma chassis but it mentioned limitations regarding latency so would be interesting to understand exactly what the lowest possible latency is and how this compares to a more up to date solution (star tech). Hopefully Fraz can report back soon! Looking at ...

Re: Cool Gear PCI to PCI Expansion

Thanks Nebelfuerst What latency settings did you use with the cards plugged into the Magma boxes? Did you have any issues with lower buffer size settings? Regarding the power question-the pulsar and scope cards need the old floppy drive power cable style connector plugging into the IO board-do the m...

Re: Cool Gear PCI to PCI Expansion

Some great motherboard suggestions so thanks for that

@nebelfuerst - what Magma product are you using and how is the latency? Also, if its an enclosure how are you providing the power to the boards?

@Fraz - are you able to report on your experience with the Startech enclosure?

Re: Cool Gear PCI to PCI Expansion

Hi Valis

Yes I've seen some posts about using a XEON server board however I would rather get an up to date processor and MB if I can. Just really hope the PCI to PCI-e converters work!

Thanks

Re: Cool Gear PCI to PCI Expansion

Hi Fraz Did the box work ok? I’m having issues with one of the PCI slots on my almost 13 year old motherboard and would like to buy a new PC but trying to find an up to date MB with PCI slots is proving difficult so want to know if one of these boxes is a viable alternate. I was also wondering how y...

Re: Sonic Core PCI Card Capacitor Replacement Service

Hi All I need to replace a small capacitor that has come loose and one of the legs has snapped off so cant just re-solder. Its the one closest to the power plug on the IO board (no need to guess why its come loose! ). It has 3b 47 6.3v printed on it. Can anyone point me to where I could buy a ...

Re: Scope Crashes When Loading FX into Routing Window

Hmm that is strange. Forgot to add I’m on 64bit and using 2 Scope Pro PCI cards-original post amended accordingly. I’m loading the plug-ins via the drop down menu. I discovered the issue when I tried to load a stereo gate effect and after I did the re-install of Scope it worked and I could load it i...

Scope Crashes When Loading FX into Routing Window

Hi All Havent really had the need to do this for many years however I've tried to load some FX into the routing window but Scope crashes. I re-installed Scope but the same thing happens on the default project. When it crashes I can just restart Scope so it's not like I have to restart the computer. ...

Launching Max 4 Live Editor Crashes ASIO Driver

Hi All Does anyone use Max 4 Live? I'd like to start making some plugins but when I launch the editor from within Ableton the ASIO driver crashes. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if they managed to fix it? If so how? I can work around it by closing scope and then reloading it ...

Re: Possible faulty A16U

Well I’m pleased to report that I’ve now replaced the connector and it powers up with no issue. Still need to connect it to the scope cards and test the inputs but it’s looking good so far seeing as these are built like tanks. For future reference I ended up going with the connector that buzzbang su...

Re: Possible faulty A16U

Help! None of them fit the circuit board. So the DC sockets arrived today and I've removed the wire that was soldered onto the board however the DC sockets legs are in the wrong place. There are 3 legs and 2 of them line up nicely but the other one doesn't. Given the state of the soldering of the wi...

Hi All Ok so the unit arrived today. It turns out that socket where the PSU plugs in has been replaced with wires (as you can see from the photo). Re: Possible faulty A16U

Thanks for the replies both! No idea what they meant by 1C - I can only assume they meant 1A of Current. I decided to go for it. They have advised that it used to work with the PSU they tested it with but also said that he measured the output of the PSU with a voltmeter and its only showing 3v so ho...

Possible faulty A16U

Hello all! Hope everyone is well! Figured this was the best place for this post. I am looking to buy an A16u however it is listed as spares / repairs and the seller has advised the following: "I tried to plug a 12v 1C power supply to it but it tripped the main circuit of the apartment. I think ...
