Re: Pci to pci e adapter

the 'best' mobos for Scope are ancient Intel BX, i815, i965 and similiar... (me looking for an Asus P2B atm, if a cheapo comes across) :D I like to treat Scope as a hardware synth and processing unit - connect it via Adat to whatever current CPU racer pleases you. Setup once and forget about it... S...

Re: VDAT MIDI CC control anybody? how?

yes, the fx slot idea was rubbish - only insert fx allowed (it complained).
Anyway - by design a VDAT will only respond to commands if in slave mode, to which it only switches if connected to a VRC or a BRC (the latter requires the syncplate).

Re: VDAT MIDI CC control anybody? how?

Of course VDAT has the Alesis sysex and mtc commands implemented - I've operated it perfectly once with a BRC. The only problem back then was that it lost contact at some point in time. It's hard to tell if that was due to the physical sync signal or by software handling of the serial protocol. A VD...

Re: VDAT MIDI CC control anybody? how?

Maybe someone has more detailed documentation about the VDAT family Scope devices... here's the connection scheme of the 9 pin Adat connector by someone who tried to capture the midi communication (wiring the 9pin to midi in/out, as written in the right column) ADAT PIN 1 - Ground? ------------NC AD...

Re: VDAT MIDI CC control anybody? how?

as written: I only assigned the CCs to VRC-S, all the others are deaf to right-clicks. ;) But if the Midi input of VRC-S is intended for MTC, then it should comply with the Alesis MTC commands. Which it didn't in my single command tests - possibly there's a special sequence required to wake it up at...

Re: VDAT MIDI CC control anybody? how?

I agree that it reads funny, but the only purpose of the VDAT file set is to keep sources aligned exactly as the original signals were monitored. No need to calculate DAW buffers etc. SAW Studio has a very special buffer handling when recording. I only use SAW for final arrangement and never record(...

this looks sick!!!! :0
frankly... it even is sick
the GUI is basically the sections of the most common DX-7 hardware editor spread over dozens of single screens :D
(but it's not as laggy as the original with it's sysex communication)
I prefer TF-7 on the iPad...

Re: Best mobo and cpu combo

I also had 3 cards connected by a single cable without problems for years. The PCI bandwidth error is a different case: the card has to access the PC's main memory for Asio streams etc, but also for data it cannot store locally, which applies to long delays and reverb in the first place. Reverb is t...

Re: VDAT MIDI CC control anybody? how?

That feature would have been mentioned in the manual ;) Just consider that VDAT/VRC were released about 20 years ago as a solution to transfer the content of real Adat tapes into the desktop DAW. At that time many such units were used in studios and lots of data was archived on digital tape. When I ...

Re: VDAT MIDI CC control anybody? how?

Imho a VDAT just loaded to the routing won't react to any control signal as long as it indicates 'Master' on it's display. It's locked to Scope's internal sample clock and there's no need to sync anyway for plain tracking. All remote control is done by the VRC, but only if VDAT accepts the VRC reque...

Re: VDAT MIDI CC control anybody? how?

While I did records up to 1 hour with Multitrack DAW, those were 2-tracks only (guitar/vocals). I'd rather check the capacity limit before going live with so many channels. Not to forget memory: iirc my two 24bit tracks were about 1 GB, which would require 24GB free space for one hour of tracking. A...

Re: VDAT MIDI CC control anybody? how?

CPU power is totally irrelevant for recording audio. As mentioned I did 32 tracks with VDAT to a slow notebook HD on one of the first Foxconn Atom boards. Thanks for mentioning the MiniDSP. If in need for a recording solution, I'd simply connect that to an outdated iPad-2 (with CCK) and record with ...

Re: VDAT MIDI CC control anybody? how?

Just for completeness: I installed a clean Win XP32 and the VRC crash remained uncured in Scope 5.1. To keep some consistency I then went back to the (my) oldest version which is 3.1c. VDAT and VRC seemed to cooperate nicely, no deep tests, though. Activated the hardware BRC (9-pin Adat control conn...

air conditioning.... ... of which the essential aspect is a temperature difference between 'inside case' and sourrounding environment. Check if the rack mount doesn't cover the side and rear grills. Re: Luna II - dead?

in fact most of these errors are related to caps, either failing or (more often) just falling off their solder pad.
Look at the bottom part of the card and at the bottom edge of each DSP for missing caps, it's quite easy to spot.

Re: Engineering logs of scope ?

oops, sorry for distraction... got farther than intended ;) As mentioned it's easy to check the hardware: if you always kept the TosLink transmitters closed when not in use, there's no dirt to be expected inside. Otherwise blow compressed air into the holes. At least the Scope main card should have ...

Re: Engineering logs of scope ?

Of course the 6 DSP card ;) But Solaris was (is) the only item in the project and it happened with the default init patch at 1 voice poly. It wasn't any heavy synth use (which I wouldn't do anyway - rarely exceeding 3 voice poly). Actually it doesn't bother me at all, but I found the observation wor...

Re: Engineering logs of scope ?

humble: Pulsar 2 plus Pulsar 1 in a Gigabyte EP41 board, CPU is a 3Ghz Dualcore clocked to 2.4 for less fan noise. SAW Studio doesn't need much juice and projects rarely exceed 8 tracks. The old EarlyFirst PT2036 (demo) reverb seems to be an interesting indicator: there are occasional glitches when ...

Re: Engineering logs of scope ?

not to distract from the original topic, just to keep things clean: the 96k issue wasn't related to Solaris, it was an empty project that took longer as usual when switching sample rate, but refused 96k completely. Slot change got the main card an unshared IRQ and both screen refresh and sample rate...
